Farewell to our Grandmother

My grandmother (maternal side) "Lee Po" had just passed away on 8 March at the age of 97. Lee Po lived in our home village in China. She broke her leg on the second day of the Chinese Lunar New Year. Towards the end she suffered a great deal of pain from the injury. She died as a result of complications from her broken leg.

This was terribly sad for me as I am proud of Lee Po. She was always so optimistic but yet a simple personality. Lee Po had a slim figure and very few grey hair even in her 70s. She can eat patiently without teeth, and manage her household works. Everyday she collects water from the well. Everytime we visited her she liked to entertain us with jokes.

Although we only visited her once a year (or less), I still have very clear memories of her. I remembered three years ago she struggled with a thief who was attempted to ransack her home. She fought with him until he knock her unconscious. She ended up spending four days in hospital. What a tough and daring grandmom! My grandmom seldom tell us about her life, or may be we just didn't ask.

According to my aunty, my grandpa trained in the Guangzhou Huangpu Military Academy in a young age and later worked as a peasant in home village. He died at the age of 55 during "The Great Leap Forward" because of the shortage of food with subsequent series of illness.

With this music video, I would like to pay my homage to our grandparents. I want to thank them for leaving us the traces of our family history. "
